DRX9000® FOR BACK PAIN RELIEF
What is Spinal Decompression?
The spinal column is an elegant, complex structure in which vertebrae, vertebral discs and facet joints are positioned alongside the spinal cord and its major nerve roots, which relay all the sensory and motor signals between the brain and the rest of the body.
The downside of this arrangement is the fact that a misalignment in these spinal structures can easily put pressure on the adjacent nerve tissues. Bulging discs flattened out by age/dehydration and herniated discs (whose torn casings allow the gelatinous inner material to extrude) are common examples.
How Effective is Back Surgery?
Although thousands of back surgeries are performed each year, studies have shown them to be largely ineffective. Research reveals that spinal surgery actually has a high failure rate, with the pain returning after the surgery, sometimes immediately, sometimes within months, sometimes after a year or more. It is so common for people to be told they need a second, or even a third, back operation that this recurrence has a special name: Failed Back Surgery Syndrome.
How Common is Failed Back Surgery?
In one recent study, the failure rate for spinal surgery was around 50%. However, that depends on how the studies define success. Some researchers will say the surgery was successful if the patient remained pain-free for one or two years. The pain returned but the surgery was still considered “successful.” Follow-up surgeries have an even poorer success rate with one study putting second surgeries at 30%, third surgeries at 15% and fourth surgeries at only 5% successful.
Get a Second, or Even Third Opinion
While surgery is sometimes necessary, it is always a good idea to never rush into an operation unless it’s an emergency! Get more opinions. For example, Nancy Epstein, MD, a neurosurgeon and editor of Surgical Neurology International, did a survey to see if recommended spinal operations were necessary after the patient received a second opinion. She found that 94% of the time surgery wasn’t necessary. Because so many back operations are unnecessary and so many back operations fail, always get a second and even a third opinion. Make sure a Doctor of Chiropractic and a Restorative Medicine Physician is consulted – it might save you from an unnecessary operation or a failed back surgery.
DRX9000® - Spinal Decompression for Back and Neck
Today at the Fraum Center for Restorative Health, there are so many options to spine surgery. Did you know that our office is the only office between Charleston, SC and Jacksonville, FL that has FDA Clearance for the DRX9000® non-surgical lumbar and cervical disc decompression devices? The DRX9000® has been cleared by the FDA to treat patients suffering with incapacitating lower back pain, spinal stenosis, and sciatica caused by herniated discs, degenerative discs, and posterior facet syndrome. Published research has shown the vast potential of the DRX9000®—the research was conducted by highly respected physicians and researchers associated with the Mayo Clinic, Stanford, Duke, Johns Hopkins University, the University of California San Francisco, and other prestigious medical institutions.
Types and Causes of Back Pain Which We Can Address With Our Methods
Tingling hands, numb feet, weakened arm or leg muscles, neck or back pain, these and other symptoms can slam the brakes on your quality of life, severely limiting your activities and making each day an agonizing struggle. Traditional medical approaches include major surgery to remove parts of your spinal anatomy and make other permanent alterations that may or may not provide lasting relief.

Benefits of Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression therapy is a painless, non-invasive method for addressing these problems naturally, with no need for damaging surgery, painful and lengthy recovery or permanent changes to your spine. It works on the principle of flexion-distraction force. Tiny amounts of such force are employed to pull the afflicted area outward, causing negative pressure to form between vertebrae. This draws bulging or herniated discs back toward their regular position in the center of the spinal column – and away from those sensitive nerves. This effect also infuses bulging discs with fluids, restoring normal spinal height and relieving facet joint stress.
Spinal decompression therapy is safe, effective, painless and easy – all you have to do is lie comfortably on our state-of-the-art decompression table. This sophisticated, computer-driven apparatus is pre-programmed with multiple setting to ensure that you receive the right degree of decompression and disc rehydration. Repeated sessions are combined with corrective exercises that strengthen and reinforce the “new normal” for your spinal column.
