How Fraum Patient Michael Avoided Joint Replacement Surgery

Michael’s experience at The Fraum Center began after years of managing significant pain in his shoulder and hips. Around 2020, as lockdowns were in full swing, Michael increased his workouts and noticed a growing issue with his shoulder. Lifting weights became challenging, and after months of trying to work around the discomfort, he sought medical advice. Following an MRI, Michael was diagnosed with a condition called Avascular Necrosis in his left shoulder—a condition that causes bone tissue to die due to a lack of blood supply, leading to the collapse of his shoulder joint.

Hearing this diagnosis, Michael searched for specialists to help. His first doctor gave him three options: undergo a partial or full shoulder replacement, or stop using the shoulder altogether. At just 39 years old, Michael didn’t want to go through a major surgery, so he opted to stop using his shoulder and shifted his focus to running.

Running became Michael’s new daily routine, and he pushed himself to run up to 10 miles a day. However, after two years, the familiar pain he had felt in his shoulder began appearing in his left hip. An MRI confirmed the same condition, avascular necrosis, was present in his hips as well. As a precaution, he also had his right hip checked, which revealed the same diagnosis. Faced with the reality that he might need two hip replacements, Michael began looking for a second opinion.

A surgeon at the Mayo Clinic provided a clear picture of what lay ahead: within a year, Michael would need his hips replaced, starting with the worst one, and then undergoing a second replacement a year later. At his age, the idea of having both hips replaced and facing the likelihood of additional surgeries down the road was daunting.

That’s when he found The Fraum Center. After consulting with Dr. H, she created a customized treatment plan for Michael including stem cell injections in both hips, his SI joints, lower back, and both shoulders. Alongside the stem cell protocol, Dr. H recommended he follow a peptide regimen to encourage bone and blood cell regeneration, as well as to restore his muscle mass.

Michael’s expectations going into treatment were modest—he hoped for a 50 to 60 percent improvement in his mobility and pain levels. However, the results exceeded anything he had imagined. Michael shared that he was now able to spend more time doing the activities he loved, like fishing, without experiencing the pain that had previously held him back. "I spent more time on the water this year than I’ve spent on land,” he noted. The level of recovery he experienced far surpassed his initial hopes, allowing him to enjoy life more fully once again.

After years of feeling limited by his condition, he finally felt like he had someone in his corner who was committed to helping him get his life back. His renewed ability to be active and do the things he loves, pain-free, has been a major turning point for him.

For Michael, the treatment plan developed at The Fraum Center didn’t just improve his physical health—it changed his outlook on life. His story highlights how individualized care and natural regenerative medicine at The Fraum Center can help patients regain control of their health and their lives.
